Course description

This English-taught professional bachelor's programme prepares you for a career in the international leisure industry. In 3 or 4 years’ time you will learn how to create memorable and meaningful experiences which contribute to a more beautiful world.

The Leisure and Events Management programme is competency-oriented. It is designed to help you acquire technical knowledge and learn how to apply this knowledge in real life projects.

Study programme

First year

The International Leisure Management programme is delivered thematically. This means that subjects such as economics, psychology, management, communication and market research are dealt with in content-related projects, rather than in separate topics. Examples of modules are: Project management, Leisure basics, Leisure direction, Event Organisation, Imagineering and Marketing and Communication.

Second year

In the second year, you have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge by taking a specialisation. For this academic year, the available options are:

  • Event Management
  • Attractions & Theme Parks Management
  • Social Innovation
  • Leisure & Events Management (broad-based)

Third year

You will spend most of the third year in a work placement. You may complete your work placement with a company in the Netherlands or an overseas organisation.

You will also have the opportunity to follow a half-year exchange programme at one of our partner universities. Your exchage semester can be before or after your work placement.

Fourth year

In the first half of the fourth year, you will work on a large-scale project or a variety of smaller projects commissioned by the leisure industry. The project(s) will be related to the specialisation you selected in the second year. You may, for instance, organise a festival, write policy plans or investigate the marketing activities of a sports club.

The second half of the fourth year is devoted to a 20-week graduation assignment. At the request of an organisation from the industry, you will conduct a research project in your specialist area, as well as giving consultation and making a plan to execute the project.

Work experience as part of your degree

To get a taste of the work place, you will experience it. For 20-40 weeks, you will have the opportunity of working in the leisure industry abroad. Breda University of Applied Sciences has business contacts all over the world and will support you in the search for the right company.

How to apply

You will need to have three A Levels to apply to Breda University of Applied Sciences.

Candiates with BTECs in relevant subjects will also be considered.
