In this international social science course you will learn that solutions to complex issues and challenges that cannot be found easily in one specialism. Instead, different organisations and teams need to work together. Therefore, this programme combines insights from human resource studies, organisation studies, and sociology.

Why Study Global Management of Social Issues?

Global Management of Social Issues is a Bachelor’s program that offers you:

  • an academic programme that is unique in the Netherlands and is only offered at Tilburg University;

  • a broad study programme with insights from various fields within the social sciences, such as human resource studies, organisation studies, and sociology;

  • strong focus on questions that are relevant to today’s society;

  • a chance to study wicked problems; these are (societal) issues or challenges that are highly resistant to resolution, for example climate change, the use of (renewable) energy, and sustainable consumption; you will learn why wicked problems are important, and what possible organisational responses exist;

  • a cross-cultural and comparative perspective, focusing on the management and organisation of people and teams that work on ‘wicked problems’;

  • an extensive training in social science theories and methodology such as statistics and research methods as well as additional courses such as financial and project management, organisational behavior or international law that are important for your further academic career and future employment;

  • a programme that is completely taught in English, bringing in the possibility of an international classroom and a chance to meet people from different cultural backgrounds;

  • the possibility to study abroad for six months to increase your international experience; and

  • small-scale, vibrant and international campus that is home to 12,000 students from around 65 countries, and that offers excellent facilities.

Future Jobs

This unique combination will prepare you for multidisciplinary jobs in international environments and organisations. You could work, for example, as a consultant or human resource manager in an international organisation, connecting people in order to create the most competent team to solve complex problems. Or you could work as a fund raiser or project manager, making sure that projects run smoothly and bring about the best possible results. To enable you to work in these contexts, this degree offers you a set of five interrelated skills: intellectual, personal, interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
