Programme introduction

How do you get a thorough education in business and finance in order to be ready for the future—your future? Not only do you need fundamental knowledge and understanding, but also the skills and training to apply your gained expertise to real practical problems.

This entails creating new business models, assessing risk, financing new enterprises and making sure you stay in control as the business progresses. If this sounds good to you, then don’t hesitate: International Finance & Control is the right programme for you.

Programme structure

Businesses are becoming increasingly international. They not only trade with partners all around the world but also open offices in new markets. There is a growing demand for finance professionals who can understand the dynamics of international business and communicate across cultures. Their role is to map out risks and evaluate economic data across borders to aid the decision-making process of their organisations. For this reason, Hanze UAS has developed the International Finance and Control bachelor's programme.

The financial profession is undergoing significant transformation, driven by international developments and technological innovations. To be able to successfully navigate these challenges, practitioners need a progressive mindset and strong analytical skills. International Finance and Control programme brings students' attention to the following topics:

  • Globalisation
  • Regulations
  • Disruptive innovation
  • Business modelling
  • Sustainability
  • Data analysis

Our comprehensive and highly practical curriculum will prepare you a variety of roles within an organisation, including connecting people, coordinating resources, managing information and improving processes.

The first year gives you a solid financial and economic basis that you will need for all of our courses. In addition, courses are offered dedicated to training you in skills such as presentation, reporting and English. A project is linked to each block in which you work on a case in a project group. The big advantage of this is that you immediately apply the knowledge you acquire during the courses in practice and you learn to work together.

From the second year you learn, among other things, that information provision and business economics cannot exist without each other. You will make annual planning for the goods and cash flows of a company and learn everything about, for example, preparing an annual account, the corporate tax and liquidity management. You will also work together with your classmates on current projects so that you can immediately apply your knowledge in practice.

In the third year, you will start with four courses and practical assignments, preparing you for your bachelor’s level regarding knowledge and professional skills. After this, you do an internship in which you have the opportunity to study abroad at an organization or company around the world, for example in Russia or somewhere in Europe.

The fourth and final year consists of a minor and your thesis. You will start this 5-month minor at a university abroad, somewhere in the Netherlands or at another department of Hanze University. Your final project (thesis) is a graduation research assignment for a Financial & Control related company from an international perspective. You will act as a junior advisor. In this year you will further increase your knowledge, skills and competencies as a developing financial professional.
